Binocular autorefractors by Plusoptix measure sphere, cylinder and axis of both eyes simultaneously, from one meter away in less than a second. They are designed to be used by eye care professionals.
Binocular refraction readings (sphere, cylinder and axis) unveil anisometropia, even in un-dilated pupils.
Taking refraction readings from a meter away rules out so called “device myopia”. Dilation is not needed in order to record precise myopia measurements.
Cylinder and axis readings are not affected by accommodation. They are accurate in un-dilated pupils and make a retinoscopy in dilation a lot easier and faster. At the end of a measurement, an image is displayed that enables an experienced user to detect media opacities within the pupil.
